Love is the Most Powerful Force on Earth

Surely you’ve heard it said that “love is the most powerful force on earth,” right? I think it might be true. And the most obvious visual of that force, is friendship.

While “being friends” can sound sort of wimpy and juvenile – reminding us of our kids who text the letters “BFF” to nearly everyone – in reality, friendship is an amazing thing. It provides comfort, direction, a center and, in some ways, life itself. Being a friend and being befriended seem to be crucial to the human experience.

Take that concept one step further, befriend someone from a different culture, race or religion than you and the experience multiplies in every sense. It stretches and deepens you in unexpected ways. Our family had the privilege of living in another country for 12 years – it changed us. We are more aware of our surroundings. More sensitive to both the pains and the joys of life. More able to meet the “other” somewhere near the middle, rather than asking them to join us on “our side.” It was good in every way!

So dive in. Commit to being a friend, a real friend – exposed and real – to someone you may have never met before. The one who gains is YOU!
